Qualifying for Diabetic Supplies

If you or a loved one need diabetic supplies, Medicare or private insurance may help pay for them.

Private Insurance
Most but not all private insurance companies follow Medicare guidelines for diabetic testing supplies qualification requirements. There are too many private insurance companies to go into detail about the required qualifications for each one. If you have a private insurance and you or a loved one have a need for diabetic supplies (test strips, lancets, glucose meters), our alliance members can talk to you about the specific requirements for your private insurance policy.

Medicare
Medicare may pay for a portion of your diabetic testing supplies. A written, signed and dated order from a physician must be provided to the supplier before the claim is submitted to Medicare. Our Diabetic Alliance members handle this for you.

Diabetic Testing Supplies are covered when the following criteria are met:
  • The patient is eligible and has received an express written order from their doctor to test their blood sugar (glucose) level
  • The patient meets all other applicable Medicare statutory and regulatory requirements
